International Federation of Association Football Facts

FIFA is the abbreviation of Fédération Internationale de Football Association (International Federation of Association Football). FIFA is the  biggest football organisation, they’re the international administrative body for association football worldwide. The organistion is responsible for major football football tournaments like the FIFA Confederations Cup and the FIFA World Cup which is the most famous one by far. The UEFA regulates and oversees the football rules being respected. Both national competitions and club competitions are organised and regulated for both men and women teams.

There are 6 confederations which are recognized by FIFA:

Each confederation regulates and oversees the football rules being respected in a particular continent. Both nation competitions and club competitions are regulated for both men and women teams. Each country can be a member of a confederation when a national association is established. A national association does practically the same as a confederation, but only for the country.

There are countries that are member of a confederation, but not of FIFA. When this is the case, the country cannot participate in the FIFA World Cup or any other FIFA tournaments. FIFA has in total 209 national associations around the world:
