Asian Football Confederation Facts

AFC (Asian Football Confederation) is the administrative body for association football in Asia. The AFC regulates and oversees the football rules being respected in Asia. Both national competitions and club competitions are organised and regulated for both men and women teams.

AFC is divided in 5 regional federations, each concentrating on 1 part of the continent:

ASEAN stands for Association of South East Asian Nations.

Of all the Confederation members, Northern Mariana Islands is the only member which is not a FIFA member. That means they are not allowed to participate in a World Cup or other FIFA tournaments.

  • South Vietnam ceased to be an AFC member in 1975 and no longer exists

  • Israel participated as an AFC country in 1970, but became an UEFA member in 1994
